2013... what is in store?
SiteThis time last year I had just picked up SW:TOR and was also playing LOTRO on a regular basis. Now I am mostly playing nothing, and reading big thick books but when I get a moment I pop onto GW2, Do a mission or two on The Secret World, get annoyed at SW:TOR as I have no sub atm and it's annoying me because I want a sub, and I get nostalgic and go onto LOTRO. I've been getting very nostalgic recently, and I find myself popping into LOTRO more and more often. Maybe it's because this time of year forces us to look back upon the previous and reminisce about what once was.

This nostalgia got me thinking about how 2012 has set the bar (in my eye's) for how we now play MMO's, with open tapping, using social networking sites in game such as Twitter and Facebook, open world environments, voice acting, space missions, no levels, combat changes such as within TERA, no classes, the option of picking up any weapon you wish, master it and once that's done throw it away and start on another weapon (if that's what you want to do). Now even LOTRO itself is changing, a once closed tapping mmo is now going open tapping, the chests will now give everyone loot, and numerous other changes to make itself seem more fresh and new to the new LOTRO players.

So what does 2013 have in store? Will it push the bar of MMO's or will it just take on the trend of those MMO's which where launched within 2012?
With such big names as:
Final Fantasy XIV (After killing off everyone this mmo is relaunching itself as F2P beta testing is now an option, check at this Link)
Wildstar (from the ex WoW staff).
The Repopulation (Clones repopulate and rebuild the world, crafter's will love it).
Survarium (Another post apocalyptic world, this is F2P).
Pathfinder Online (Tabletop fans will know about this one, choice between F2P + Sub).
Lineage Eternal: Twilight Resistance (Sequel to original Lineage).
Everquest Next (Sequel to Everquest).
Elder Scrolls Online (The long awaited MMO for a lot of people).
Bless (Developed by those at Aion, Lineage II and Tera).
Blade & Soul (Martial Arts MMO that apparently isn't garbage, made my NCSoft).
ArcheAge (Fantasy sandbox MMO headed by Jake Song).

With many more MMO's coming within the next year I keep find myself wondering what I will be playing this time next year and what will be pushing the genre in the years to come.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing the new MMO from Blizzard being announced this year at some point.

Then there is Neverwinter as well, which I think will be the ONLY new mmo I play this year, unless FFXIV f2p launches.

This year will be about the single player and co-op games for me, although I will still be playing SWTOR as well.

Going offline for a bit to deal with the real world just incase anyone wonders why I'm not playing the new SWTOR expansion tomorrow. So please no story spoilers until I get a chance to play. Wink
